Pen writing music on a manuscript

THEORY & SOLFÈGE

Music Theory & Solfège

Train the ear and the mind behind every instrument.

WHY IT MATTERS

The Musician’s Foundation

Solfège is ear training and sight-singing: learning to hear what you read, and read what you hear.

In the European conservatory tradition, every instrumentalist studies solfège. It is how musicians learn to hear what they read and read what they hear.

At Cephas, theory and solfège are taught as living skills, not just exam paperwork.

  • Makes every instrument easier to learn
  • Builds sight-reading and sight-singing confidence
  • Essential for aural tests in graded exams
  • A strong start for young beginners before or alongside an instrument

EXAMS

Theory and Aural Exam Preparation

We prepare students for written music theory exams and the aural section of practical exams for ABRSM and Trinity College London. LCM on request.

One student had two weeks to prepare for their aural and sight-singing exams, followed a set plan with extra sessions, and passed.

ADVANCED STUDY

Advanced Theory and Diplomas

Advanced theory and aural students work under the personal tutelage of Dr. Andjelita Chendra, whose PhD in Music Pedagogy from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels shapes how we teach musicianship at every level.

  • Grades 5 to 8 theory: including the Grade 5 theory needed before ABRSM Grade 6 to 8 practical exams
  • Harmony and counterpoint: writing and analysing music in four parts
  • Analysis and form: understanding how great works are built
  • Advanced aural: the listening skills expected at higher grades and diploma level
  • Diploma support: the written and viva voce elements of ABRSM and Trinity diplomas
